Kanha Safari Booking Guide: Permits, Timings, Rules & Tips

How Kanha Safari Booking Works
Safari permits for Kanha National Park are issued online through the official Madhya Pradesh Forest Department portal and are limited per zone, per shift. Because of high demand, especially during weekends and peak season, it's advisable to book your permit at least a few weeks in advance.
Safari Timings
Kanha offers two safari shifts each day:
- Morning safari: Starts around sunrise, typically between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM depending on the season
- Afternoon safari: Usually begins around 3:00 PM and continues till sunset
Exact timings shift slightly with the seasons, so it's best to confirm the current schedule with your stay or a local operator before finalising your plans.
What You'll Need for Booking
- A valid government ID proof for each visitor
- Advance online permit booking (gate, date, and shift specific)
- A registered gypsy and guide, usually arranged through the booking system or your resort
Basic Safari Rules to Follow
- Maintain silence inside the core zone to avoid disturbing wildlife
- Do not leave your vehicle at any point during the safari
- Avoid using flash photography near animals
- Carry your ID proof and permit at all times during the safari
- Follow your naturalist's and driver's instructions at all times
Practical Tips for First-Time Visitors
Reach the gate at least 30 minutes before your shift to complete entry formalities. Carry water, a cap, and warm layers if visiting in winter mornings. A good pair of binoculars and a fully charged camera will help you make the most of your Kanha jungle safari.
