Best Time to Visit Kanha National Park for Tiger Safari

When Should You Plan Your Kanha Safari?

Kanha National Park, one of India's largest and most well-managed tiger reserves, is open for safaris from October to June every year. The park remains closed during the monsoon months (July to September) to allow the forest and wildlife to regenerate. But within this open season, some months are far better than others for spotting a tiger in the wild.

October to February: Pleasant Weather, Lush Greenery

This is the most popular time for families and first-time visitors. The weather is cool and comfortable, the meadows are green after the monsoon, and the park is teeming with birdlife. Tiger sightings are decent, though the dense foliage can sometimes make spotting a bit harder compared to summer.

  • Ideal for photography lovers who want lush landscapes
  • Comfortable temperatures for early morning and evening safaris
  • Great for bird watching alongside tiger tracking

March to June: Peak Time for Tiger Sightings

As summer sets in and water sources shrink, animals are forced to move closer to the remaining waterholes, making tiger and other wildlife sightings much more frequent. Many seasoned wildlife photographers consider April and May the best months for a Kanha tiger safari, despite the heat.

  • Higher probability of tiger, leopard, and gaur sightings near waterholes
  • Thinner vegetation gives clearer visibility
  • Recommended for serious wildlife photographers

Monsoon Closure (July–September)

The park remains shut for safaris during this period to protect breeding wildlife and allow the ecosystem to recover from the dry season.

Our Recommendation

If comfort matters more to you, plan your trip between November and February. If your priority is tiger sightings, aim for April or May. Whichever season you choose, staying close to the park with a stay that understands the rhythm of the jungle makes all the difference to your safari experience.
